| A number of studies have shown that life insurance policies pay out a death benefit as low as 1% of the time. That doesn't mean the other 99% shouldn't have purchased it but it's worth noting that not everyone needs it. |
| Do Children need Life Insurance |
|
Children don't typically need to take out life cover. There have been instances where life insurance for a child has been a blessing, but in most cases, it's unnecessary.
The main reason is that a child doesn't have any dependents that are relying on them to survive so financial protection on their life is unneeded.
|
| Do people without dependents need it |
|
In many cases, single people and those with no dependents won't need to get life cover. Like children, many single people don't have anyone they'll need to look after when they die. There are also wealthy couples without children that could live comfortably even if their spouse were to pass away.
Life insurance policies can be quite inexpensive for young and healthy people, so some might want to pick up some sort of insurance to cover funeral costs. They may also decide to purchase insurance to help their grieving family with some cash if they die prematurely.
That doesn't mean you should buy life cover but it's important to weigh all options before jumping into a lengthy policy.

| Are you already covered |
|
A lot of people are confused about life insurance.
Sometimes an employer will purchase life insurance policies for their employees. The employee may then purchase further life insurance on their own, unaware that they are already covered.
It's important to get the facts clear about your life insurance policy and to make sure that you are indeed covered but also that you are not covered twice. Talk to your employer and see what you might be covered for and if that protection is enough. In some instances you can purchase further coverage through their policy at a much lower rate.
You might also be paying too much on your current policy so review your plan every year or two to make sure your rate is competitive.

| Who needs life insurance |
|
If you have children or relatives that need care it's often good to purchase life insurance to make sure they will be protected if you die.
Most mortgages will require some form of life insurance plan to be attached. This is to ensure you will be able to pay for the home, even if you die before the end of the mortgage. Your mortgage provider may sell life insurance but you can usually find a better price by going to an external life insurance company.
|
| Piece of mind |
|
A lot of people might feel the piece of mind they get from over-insuring themselves is worth the financial cost. You can't really argue with that.
Even if you're single with no dependents, it might make you feel better to know your family or friends will be secure after your death, no matter what may arise. Some people also name a foundation or charity as a beneficiary of their life insurance plan so that their death will bring some good.

| How to find the best price for life insurance |
|
If you need life insurance for your family or to purchase a home then there are a number of life insurance providers on the internet. Look for a company that compares the entire UK market and shop around until you find a policy that works for you.
Purchasing a cheap life insurance policy shouldn't be your only consideration.
The important thing is to find a policy that fits your specific needs and one that has a competitive price.
