When it comes to 'marks' losing money - time never really moves, in that the cons that worked 100 years continue to work today, and will do so in 100 years time. The reason is simple, human nature stays constant.
So our friends the offshore brokers are up to their old tricks again using a tried and tested double scam.
This is how it works -
- Mr A gets called by some fancy named 'broker' with a hot investment idea, one that's sure to at least double or triple his money
- Of course, the whole operation is a sophisticated scam and if Mr A ever wires the 'broker' any money it will be stolen, you can bet on that
- And because the scammers really know their game there's no chance that Mr A will be able to interest the police or fraud squad in looking into the matter
- The matter is therefore closed
- However, 6-12 months later Mr A receives another call from a 'broker' or 'representative' of the US government (or some such agency) that is looking into the problems that he experienced with the previous 'broker' who conned him
- The new cold calling company will spill some spiel about how it's been put in charge of getting investors' money back, basically a perfectly scripted plan which will surely play on the heart strings (and greed) of Mr A
- The salesman on the other end of the phone will sound really professional and will be super polite etc (the scammers earn multi-millions a year so can afford to employ top talent)
- Of course it's all a con, and the scam will come when they ask for some money to contribute for lawyer fees or another advanced fee of some kind
- The con may come in many different forms but the lowest common denominator will be Mr A again wiring money to some company located in the Far East or Caribbean etc
Summary
These cold calling thieves will do anything to get hold of your money, remember lying for them is a virtue.
But if you follow our advice and NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH ANY COMPANY THAT COLD CALLS YOU then it's impossible to lose money. Of course, if you want to protect yourself even more, make sure you read these articles over on the InvestorProfit.com site
