How to Get More Efficient on your Computer

Transform your Desktop with this free software

We humans are visual animals. We can normally make sense out of pictures more easily than we can from figures or words.

A case in point is the Windows Desktop.

This is the main screen that's loaded when you first boot a computer. Most people's Desktops are either incredibly messy and cluttered or grossly underused.

But I've recently found an excellent piece of (free) software that has semi-revolutionised the way I work on my computer. It has simplified organising my current files, what I'm working on at present, and what I've got to do. This is all due to the visual nature of how my files are now presented.

Fences - Just what our Desktops have been crying out for

The software Fences works by creating boxes on your Desktop in which to drag/drop program icons and different files.

For example, you might create a new window (Fence) and label it 'To Do', another might be labelled 'Done' etc. Then as you work on a Word or Excel document you drag/drop the relevant files into the different Fences.

Or you might have a load of antivirus and antispyware programs. Create a fence, label it 'Security' and drop all the relevant program icons into that Fence.

I have personally created about 12 different Fences on my Desktop and organising these is simple as well. Just drag and drop the Fences at will, make them smaller or larger, delete old ones, create new ones. It only ever takes a few seconds to do.

I could go on but it's easier to go to the website for more details. Look out for the 2 minute video that shows the software in action.

Computer Tip:

If you're working on a program or file and want to easily access your Desktop without having to close or minimise anything then use the keyboard shortcut 'Start M'.

The Start button is normally to the left of the space bar - hold that down while pressing the key 'm' - anything that's currently on your screen will be minimised (this means it will still be open but will appear as a small rectangle at the bottom of your screen) and your desktop will pop up.

Summary

If you install Fences it's odds-on that you'll love the software. I did and wouldn't hesitate in adding it to my top 10 of must have programs.
