Good news when using a Credit Card abroad

You get the same protection as if in the UK

Last update : March 2010
The House Of Lords has recently ruled that consumers should receive the same protection when using their Credit cards worldwide as they get in the UK.

This means that if you buy an item or services using your Credit Card in Berlin, Dubai or Hong Kong and it is faulty or fails to be delivered, you can claim a refund from your Card provider.

Credit Cards now offer the same financial protection if you use them to buy goods or services from abroad
'Section 75' is the consumers friend
Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, the law used for protection, does not cover all spending. It offers protection for purchases between £100 and £30,000 but only when a Credit Card is used. Use a Debit Card and the protection doesn't apply.
