How to transfer Cash ISA money

to a Stocks & Shares ISA

Last update : November 2011
Recent changes to the way that ISAs are run mean that it is possible to transfer money from a Cash ISA to a Stocks & Shares ISA.

However, the money cannot then be transferred back to the Cash ISA, nor can any money in a Stocks & Shares ISA be transferred to a Cash ISA.

The process of moving money is simple
  1. Open an account with the provider you want to transfer the money to and then fill in a transfer form - See how to find the right Stocks & Shares ISA provider
  2. Liaise with the new provider when filling out the form to make sure everything is correct
  3. You do not have to contact the provider you're moving money from

Completing the paperwork should take less than 20 minutes but how quickly the money is moved usually depends on the efficiency of the provider you're moving from, not your new provider.

This should take a few weeks but not more than 30 days. However there have been many occasions where ISA transfers have taken more than 30 days. If this happens complain - See more on this FAQ.
