Use Google Alerts To Follow Anything On The Net

Google Alerts is a useful feature that I don't think many people know about. They're simple to use and setup.

So what are they?

Google Alerts are a way to follow news or information on the internet on any topic that you're interested in. All you do is -

  • Sign up to a free Google account
  • Enter the keywords or key phrases you are interested in
  • Then when something is published on the internet relating to the above you'll receive an email notification

This system is especially useful for following news on stocks you might be following, especially if they're small companies or penny stocks which are not going to get the general coverage of a larger company.

The alerts can be setup to deliver an email everyday, as it happens, or weekly and you can have as many different alerts as you want and all of them can easily be managed with just a few clicks.

Tip - Get a Separate Email Account

I would setup a new email address to handle the alerts as sometimes, depending on the amount of news coverage, your main email inbox can get smothered.

If you only have the one email then consider getting a free Google Email account as that gels nicely with Google Alerts.

PS. If you run a website you might find the article below of use.

Many websites are getting hacked with links being secretly embedded. Setting up a Google alert for your site as the article suggests is one way of foiling any potential hackers.
