Useful Websites, Free Software We Like and Other Bits & Pieces
Learn Online With Free Videos
The websites listed below all show free videos of how to do things covering such topics as Health, DIY, Cars & Bikes, Pets, Leisure and software training. There's a lot of information and some videos are better than others but whatever the case there are some interesting topics covered.
Sites like this prove the point that whatever you want to learn you can learn on the internet and usually for free.
Golf - The US Masters
For many the greatest of the Golf Majors is starting next month - The US Masters (5th - 8th April)
The official website looks really good and will be even better in the week leading up to the competition as there will be a lot of video uploaded, interviews, watch the players on the driving range and the Par 3 competition etc. We don't know if this year's competition is on BBC or Sky but because the BBC lacks a dedicated sports channel coverage is not as good as it could be. Also, this site is great for anyone living in a foreign country where the Golf maybe not on TV at all.
Test Your Internet Speed
Ever thought your internet speed isn't as good as advertised? Then do a quick test using this website. We've just tested ours and it delivered almost the speed that was advertised. We use BT Business Broadband and it's not cheap, 2MB for around £33 a month but we've hardly ever had a problem with it over the last 4 years. Proves what many know in the internet ISP world - you really do get what you pay for so beware of very cheap especially the 'free' ones.
Take On & Sue The Spammers
If you dislike spammers and have the time to do something about them check out the website below. The man behind the site has successfully sued and won against some UK spammers.
WalkingWorld.com
Enjoy walking? If so then you're bound to find something interesting on this site as it holds details on over 3,500 different walks contributed by more than 200 walkers from around the country. Click on the map or enter a postcode and up pop all the walks within a 50 mile radius Most of the walks are in the UK but France and Spain are also covered.
WiFi Finder & Laptop Security
We've always been impressed by the Kensington computer products, very well made and competitively priced.
We've just bought the WiFi Finder Plus which is a simple keyfob that finds network Hotspots and their strength without the need to boot up your laptop. It also has a Bluetooth indicator signal built in. Cost is around £20.
Also, if you use a Laptop and stay in Hotels etc then having a Notebook Lock (a steel cable that's attached to your Laptop and a non-removable object such as a built in table leg) is essential. Cost £20 - £40
Save All Your Online Account Logins - Free Software
Several months back we highlighted a program called RoboForm which was a simple utility to manage all your online usernames and passwords. The trouble was that the software costs money. However, John M a subscriber emailed us recently about AccountLogon which does the same job but this time it's 100% free.
If you've got a lot of usernames/logins and often get lost then check out the software.
We hope you enjoy this month's Newsletter.
